Reflections: My College Years
School is almost starting and a lot of students still haven't had much fun with their summer vacation. The highschool graduates are now excited in college. Many are now preparing with the new environment that they will be indulging themselves into and some would even need to be away from their families just to get the best eductaion in Manila and in other cities.
I could still remember when I first entered college. It was a whirlwind decision because I was only supposed to be studying near my province. But having been able to pass the entance examination of the premiere university (You know what school right? hehe) I decided to stay away from my family.
Here are some of the realizations that I have in college that I think would be worth sharing.
1. Being away from my family for the first time gave me the independence I wanted in high school. I got to enjoy hanging out, enjoy friends, go to places and go back to my apartment in the wee hours of the morning without anyone to look after me. Believe me it was fun. However, the good this is that I know how to control myself and I know my limitations. A lot of times I could have been trekking the wrong path but I thank God for guiding me and for my parents for instilling in me good values to know which is which when faced with tough situations.
2. My first day in college was really hard. I don't know any of my classmates since we were like fruits picked up from different provinces boxed in one single box. It was hard since after the orientation and all, I don't know where to go and I can't even initiate asking my classmate to go out with me for lunch or for some coffee. Considering that I was also a meek person made things even harder.
3. Freshies are really the prey of fraternities. I remember after the welcome ceremonies and and I don't have anyone to talk with after the program, someone approched me and made friends with me. He asked me to have lunch with him and he entertained me and even toured me around my new school. I thought he was really just nice and all but I ended up in their fraternity house. I never really intended to join any frat but believe me they are good in encouraging you. They use the most attracting tactics and I almost fell with their encouragement.
I don't have anything against fraternities but I know that life would be better without them. You really don't need to join one to be in. Just enjoy your college life with your own friends.
4. I was really very conscious with my grades in high school. Competition was at its best in my classroom during my secondary years and I always thought that I would suffer from such thing in college. I was wrong. In college, I realized that its not about grades but its more of being able to pass the subject. It's not about befriending your professor to get high grades but it's more of making sacrifices to make you pass your exams.
5. Staying away from my family was the hardest thing. I had been very dependent for 17 years and all of a sudden I have to live on my own. I have to prepare my clothes, I have to prepare my breakfast and I have to make decisions on my own. I admit that I cried a lot of times and I wanted to go home and just give up my studies. These are normal sufferings that a college freshman would really go through. Just believe in yourself that you can do it. Don't count the days for they would just slip away and you would just find yourself back in your province again on school breaks.
6. Friends are important. Within a week after the start of school, I had already made good friends. I was lucky because all my friends were really nice. I know that in your college freshman you really would be jumping from one group of friends to another because it is normal to look whick ones would fit in your personality. Just make sure that you make friends with the ones who will also serve as your support system as you journey the next years in college.
7. Books are important but they are not the top reference during exams. Well as far as my school is concerned, I believe that it is the lecture of the professors that would matter most in your examinations When I entered my proper year, it was very helpful to divide the class in transcribing the lectures on all of our subjects. the transcriptions are then encoded, photocopied and are distributed to the whole class. It was really a very helpful way to make you through the examinations.
College life had been fun. I know I am leaving that stage of my life soon and I feel happy that I have survived but I am saddened that I will miss every experience that I had. It was in college when I got to know myself more, when I got to find the best friends and when I got to be mature enough. It was in college when I realized that life isn't all fun and that a lot of priorities are waiting for me. It was in college that I got to learn how much my family means to me and that being apart from them is like removing a big part of your heart.
Time had been so fast that I am now seeing myself wearing a toga soon, going up the stage while my name is being called inside the big auditorium. As I leave the portals of my school soon, I will always remember all the laughters, all tha pains, all the adventures and all the memories that I had shared with myself, my friends and my family.

This is Amazing - Say The Color And Not The Word
I have come across many interesting, mind buggling realities about the human body. I know everyone of you knows the tricky "word reading" game where the first and last letters of a work are just the ones in the right place while the othe ones in between ar jumbled up.
Just recently, I came across this new stuff which I know would also interest you. Try this game by saying the color and NOT reading the word. This would make you understand the differences of the left and right brain as we all have known in our science classes. HAVE FUN!!!
